A short story
About Me
Hiya, wish I could meet you in person, but I guess this will suffice as a digital extension of myself. I'm Kryslyne-Mai Ancheta, my parents hyphenated the "Mai" in case I would forget my birthday so call me Kryslyne. I am a Filipina-Canadian still struggling to understand what being both means. Tkaronto is the wonderful land I get the privilege of walking and sharing art on. I'm on a healing journey through poetry, I have a mild obsession David Chang, I struggle with vulnerability, F major is a top tier key (I don't make the rules) and I love my friends and my family. Here's more information about my professional career and passion projects.
Musical Theatre/Theatre
I predominately work as an actor, singer, mover and musician on (preferably) local indie stages across Tkaronto. I seem to be only casted in musicals and plays that are written by Canadian playwrights and composers, whom I look up to (what a privilege). By merely existing, I've been able to challenge the norms of theatre, represent my culture and take part in accessible theatre shows. Magical moments happen live, which is why I fell in love with theatre and continue to work within the industry.
"The cast is alarmingly and uniformly strong, but standout performances quickly emerge from Kryslyne-Mai Ancheta as Amy...."
Music / Composition
I love performing the original works of my colleagues and I can't help but wonder if I could do it too, (spoiler: I actually can, its wild). I am part of a collective called Passing Strangers. Our goal is to bring original music to the streets of Tkaronto that evoke hope, healing and community. Not only do we want to spread joy, we have edge too ya'know. Our music is fun and joyful but also doesn't shy away from topics such a living wage, universal basic income and the impact our city's urban planning. We are the flower child movement reincarnated and it has been truly healing for me.
